Welcome

The Golden Tones is a 60-voice chorus of retired people who love to sing! There is no audition to join the Golden Tones. We subscribe to the African proverb which says, "If you can walk, you can dance; if you can talk, you can sing."

We welcome new members at any time! Come to a rehearsal and join the fun, every Tuesday from September through June, from 10:00am to noon, at the Wayland Senior Center, 41 Cochituate Road, Wayland Center (near intersection of Routes 27 and 20).

The chorus began in 1988 as a sing-along activity offered at the Wayland Senior Center. Over time, it evolved into a vibrant performing chorus of men and women from all over the MetroWest Boston area. The group travels to many towns in eastern Massachusetts each season, performing 50 concerts each year for nursing homes, senior centers, faith communities, public events, and intergenerational events with local schools.

At the same time, the members create a community together, supporting one another as they keep learning, and encouraging each other to stay active, healthy and creative.

Deborah Marion, Acting Director

Deborah joined the Golden Tones as Assistant Director in 2005 and became Acting Director in 2008. Music has always been important in her life, but she came to it as a vocation by a circuitous route. She started toward a career in arts management with a BS in Communications from Boston University, and after completing an MBA there, turned toward information systems work in business analysis, software development, and technical sales support. After hours, she sang with the prestigious Zamir Chorale of Boston, including a memorable performance at Carnegie Hall. Leaving the business world for a while to raise her young children, she wanted to keep singing closer to home, so In the Moment was born in 1999, now a 6-voice all-female a cappella group. This led to other professional musical endeavors, including preschool music time, senior center sing-alongs, and coaching a vocal ensemble at a Boston public high school. With a life-long devotion to promoting singing for all ages, Deborah finds managing and conducting the Golden Tones to be a joyful experience. The chance to mix her business skills and musical savvy makes this job, in her words, “a perfect fit.”
