About Us

The Golden Tones is a sixty person elder chorus founded in 1988 by professional singer Maddie Sifantus. It began as a small sing-along group to match the interest of several patrons of the Wayland Senior Center and has evolved through the interaction of members and Sifantus' direction to a vibrant performing chorus of folks from Wayland and the Metrowest area of Boston which travels to 25 or more towns a season, performing 60 concerts a year for nursing homes, senior clubs, churches, community events, conferences, and audiences of all kinds. The group has always valued its intergenerational events with the local schools and colleges.

There is no audition to join the Golden Tones; a love of singing and fun are the only prerequisites. Sifantus believes, as the African saying goes, "If you can walk, you can dance; if you can talk, you can sing." In addition to providing quality music to the community, the Golden Tones have become a community to themselves, supporting each other through the inevitable losses which come with aging and encouraging each other to keep learning and healthy living habits.

The chorus' season runs from September through the first week of June. It rehearses most Tuesday mornings at the Wayland Senior Center at 10:00 A.M. New singers are always welcome. There is a $25.00 annual fee to join the group.

The Golden Tones incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 1996. The group is funded almost entirely by individual donors. It receives in kind support from the Town of Wayland, as well as small grants from area Cultural Councils. They have received generous support in the past from the State Street Bank Global Philanthropy Program. Donations can be sent to the Golden Tones, Council on Aging, 41 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778. For more information on the Golden Tones, call Director Maddie Sifantus or Assistant Director Deborah Foner at 508-358-0111.
